Flames 4, Avalanche 3 (OT): Defenseman Dennis Wideman tied the contest late in the third period with his second goal of the night and Sean Monahan scored the winner 1:47 into overtime as host Calgary rallied to extend its winning streak to four games.

Semyon Varlamov stopped Flames captain Mark Giordano's shot but tapped the puck back into the slot, allowing Monahan to gain control and drag it to the right side of the crease before burying it for his 10th goal. Monahan and Curtis Glencross each finished with a goal and an assist, defenseman Kris Russell set up three tallies and Karri Ramo made 26 saves en route to his sixth straight win as Calgary earned Bob Hartley his 400th career victory as an NHL coach.

Matt Duchene, blue-liner Nick Holden and Alex Tanguay scored for the Avalanche, who have lost three of four. Ryan O'Reilly notched a pair of assists and Varlamov turned aside 21 shots in his return from a six-game absence due to a groin injury.

After a scoreless first period, Calgary grabbed the lead during a power play at 2:20 of the second as Johnny Gaudreau chased down his own dump-in along the left-wing boards after squeezing between two defenders at the blue line and dished the puck to Wideman, who knocked it out of mid-air and past Varlamov from in front. Colorado moved ahead later in the session on goals 58 seconds apart by Duchene and Holden, but the Flames drew even 74 seconds into the third on Glencross' shot from the slot.

A former Flame, Tanguay made a brilliant move at the blue line to get around Russell and skated in on a partial breakaway before slipping the puck around Ramo from below the left faceoff circle at 14:14. Wideman answered with 1:17 remaining, beating Varlamov with a rising wrist shot from above the right circle to complete his second two-goal effort of the season and force overtime.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Wideman, who also scored twice against Anaheim on Nov. 18, leads all NHL defensemen with 10 goals. ... Flames LW Paul Byron nearly ended overtime seven seconds in, grabbing the puck after the opening faceoff and getting past a defender before being denied by Varlamov's outstretched right leg on a breakaway. ... Colorado had a goal disallowed with 16:11 remaining in the second period, as video review determined C Daniel Briere batted the puck into the net with his glove.
