Devils 5, Maple Leafs 3: Steve Bernier and defenseman Eric Gelinas each recorded a goal and an assist as visiting New Jersey outgunned red-hot Toronto.

Stephen Gionta scored his first goal of the season, Mike Cammalleri converted a second-period power-play chance and Adam Henrique tallied in the third for the Devils, who prevailed despite being without injured forwards Patrik Elias and Jaromir Jagr. Michael Ryder and blue-liners Marek Zidlicky and Jon Merrill added two assists apiece while Cory Schneider made 29 saves.

Mike Santorelli notched a goal and an assist while Nazem Kadri scored his second in as many games for the Maple Leafs, who failed to record a point for the first time in six contests. Phil Kessel tallied during a man advantage in the final minute while Jonathan Bernier stopped 21 shots in defeat.

The Devils struck first on a power play at 4:53 of the first period, when Merrill's shot glanced off Gelinas' right leg and slid between Bernier's pads. Toronto drew even at 5:37 of the middle session, as Santorelli's redirection of Joffrey Lupul's shot beat Schneider to the glove side.

New Jersey regained the lead at the eight-minute mark of the period, when Gionta gathered a centering pass in the slot and fired a quick shot past Bernier. Kadri flipped a loose puck over Schneider for a game-tying short-handed tally at 11:14, but Cammalleri gave the Devils the lead for good at 16:48 with a snap shot after Gelinas' initial shot bounced off the end boards.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Toronto has scored a league-high six short-handed goals. ... Santorelli has collected a goal and nine assists during his five-game point streak. ... Toronto is 5-for-13 on the power play over its last three games.
