Blackhawks 2, Senators 1: Defenseman Brent Seabrook scored the go-ahead goal in the second period and Scott Darling turned aside 32 shots in his NHL debut as Chicago edged visiting Ottawa.

Captain Jonathan Toews also tallied and Patrick Kane recorded an assist for his 500th career point for the Blackhawks, who snapped a two-game slide. Darling, a sixth-round pick of Arizona in 2007, stopped all 16 shots he faced in the third period as Chicago improved to 4-0-1 at home.

Milan Michalek scored his first goal of the campaign while short-handed as the Senators saw their five-game point streak (4-0-1) come to an end. Craig Anderson stopped 43 shots – including 17 in the first period – for Ottawa, which successfully killed five of its six short-handed situations.

Toews opened the scoring by registering Chicago’s first second-period goal of the season on a wraparound 21 seconds into the session. Ottawa answered when the puck got by Brad Richards at the right point, with referee Steve Kozari in his way, to create a 3-on-1 during which Alex Chiasson fed Michalek for a quick one-timer from in close at 7:08.

Seabrook gave Chicago a 2-1 lead during a power play with 6:22 remaining in the period with a shot from the point that got by a screened Anderson. Darling made a big stop on David Legwand early in the third and Senators defenseman Chris Phillips missed wide on a chance from in close with 3:40 left.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Chicago LW Daniel Carcillo suffered a lower-body injury in Saturday’s 3-2 loss at St. Louis and coach Joel Quenneville told reporters he is expected to miss about four weeks. … Anderson stopped Blackhawks C Andrew Shaw on a penalty shot 1:48 into the second period. … Kozari was the lone referee for the contest with Eric Furlatt out due to illness.
