Predators 3, Blackhawks 2: James Neal registered his fifth career hat trick as host Nashville handed Chicago its first regulation defeat.

Pekka Rinne made 16 of his 30 saves in the third period as the Predators avenged a 2-1 overtime loss in Chicago on Saturday. Filip Forsberg collected a pair of assists as Nashville remained the only NHL team without a regulation loss.

Ben Smith and Andrew Shaw scored for the Blackhawks, who surrendered more than two goals for the first time this season. Antti Raanta, making his second straight start in place of an injured Corey Crawford, turned aside 24 shots.

The Predators controlled much of the opening period, but Chicago got on the board first as Smith converted the rebound of Marcus Kruger's wraparound attempt at 12:21 while falling to the ice. Neal answered with 48 seconds left in the period, beating Raanta to the stick side with a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle.

Neal put Nashville ahead to stay with 3:48 remaining in the second, burying a slap shot after Brandon Saad's turnover, before completing the natural hat trick just under two minutes into the third by sweeping home the rebound of defenseman Ryan Ellis' shot for his first three-goal game since Dec. 29 at Columbus. Shaw pulled Chicago within 3-2 by batting the rebound of his own shot out of mid-air and into the net with 7:24 to play.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Predators C Mike Ribeiro assisted on Neal's first goal, running his point streak to five games. ... Blackhawks RW Patrick Kane was held off the scoresheet and remains two points shy of 500 for his career. ... Nashville failed on both of its power-play chances to fall to 2-for-23 on the season.
