Stars 6, Canucks 3: Erik Cole scored twice and Dallas bolted to a five-goal lead before withstanding a late flurry from visiting Vancouver.

Ryan Garbutt and Tyler Seguin each had a goal and an assist while captain Jamie Benn and Cody Eakin scored 29 seconds apart at the outset of the second period to lift the Stars to their first home win. Kari Lehtonen was forced to make 43 saves despite being staked to the 5-0 lead.

Radim Vrbata, Zack Kassian and Jannik Hansen scored for the Canucks, who dropped their second in a row after opening the season with three victories. Ryan Miller gave up five goals on 13 shots before he was replaced by Eddie Lack (14 saves).

Vancouver received an early inkling it would not be its night when Garbutt attempted a backhand pass into the slot, only for it to be knocked into the net by Canucks defenseman Alex Burrows. Cole connected on the power play at 17:46 of the opening period before Seguin buried a rebound of Benn's wraparound attempt with 43 seconds left in the period.

Benn converted from the right circle only 48 seconds into the middle session before Eakin chased Miller 29 seconds later. Vrbata finally broke the spree with a tough-angle shot at 3:39 but Dallas needed only 65 seconds to answer when Cole beat Lack for his second tally.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Lehtonen improved to 5-0-0 in his last six starts against Vancouver. ... The loss spoiled a homecoming of sorts for Canucks coach Willie Desjardins, who led the Texas Stars to the Calder Cup title last season. ... Stars F Valeri Nichushkin (groin/hip) sat out his third straight game but coach Lindy Ruff said he may be available for Wednesday's practice.
