Bruins 4, Sabres 0: Niklas Svedberg made 32 saves to record his first shutout in his third career start and defenseman Dougie Hamilton collected a goal and an assist as visiting Boston blanked Buffalo.

Carl Soderberg and captain Zdeno Chara scored for the second straight contest while blue-liner Torey Krug also tallied for the Bruins, who had dropped five of their previous six games. Patrice Bergeron notched an assist for his 499th career point.

After yielding a last-second goal versus Colorado in his previous start on Monday, Svedberg wasn't going to be denied against the Sabres. The 25-year-old Swede highlighted the best start of his young career by stopping 16 shots in the first period while Buffalo was shut out in back-to-back contests for the first time since October 2003.

Hamilton's sharp wrist shot from the point beat a screened Jhonas Enroth (32 saves) midway into the first period to open the scoring before Chara's blast from above the left faceoff circle 3 1/2 minutes later doubled the advantage. The scoring burst resulted in Boston's first two-goal lead of the season.

The Bruins didn't let up in the second as Krug's wrist shot from the point at 11:40 extended the advantage and Soderberg deftly backhanded a centering feed over Enroth just over three minutes later. The Sabres mustered little offensively, failing on all seven power-play opportunities to drop to 0-for-22 on the season.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Buffalo C Sam Reinhart, who was the second overall pick of the 2014 draft, was a healthy scratch after failing to record a point in each of his first five games. "It's one of those things. He's a young player that's still learning," Sabres coach Ted Nolan said prior to the contest. "So we'll let him watch a game and let's see how he comes from that." ... Boston D Kevan Miller appeared to injured his right arm during a fight with Buffalo LW Nicolas Deslauriers at 7:55 of the first period. He did not return to the contest after the bout. ... Chara registered a game-high seven shots.
