Flames 2, Blackhawks 1 (OT): Jonas Hiller made 49 saves and Mikael Backlund scored 4:35 into overtime as visiting Calgary edged Chicago for its second victory in as many nights.

Defenseman TJ Brodie sprung Backlund, who unleashed a wrist shot from the top of the left circle that beat goalie Corey Crawford to the glove side for the winner. Defenseman Dennis Wideman also scored in the second period and Hiller won his first contest with the Flames, who are 3-1-0 on their six-game road trip.

Andrew Shaw tied the game late in the third period with his second goal for the Blackhawks, who suffered their first loss in three games this season. Crawford turned aside 16 shots for Chicago, which had 30 shots blocked.

Calgary had the best chance in a scoreless first period when Paul Byron rung a shot off the right post on a short-handed breakaway. The Flames were outshot 34-8 through 40 minutes, but Wideman’s blast from the right point deflected off the stick of Chicago’s Trevor van Riemsdyk and sailed between Crawford’s pads at 11:55 of the second.

Chicago tied it on its seventh man-advantage opportunity as Shaw deflected Patrick Sharp’s shot from the right point past Hiller at 14:15 of the third. Crawford denied Byron on a breakaway chance early in overtime and Hiller stopped captain Jonathan Toews’ point-blank shot later in the extra period.
