Flames 5, Predators 4 (SO): Rookie Sean Monahan scored the decisive goal in the fourth round of the shootout as host Calgary defeated Nashville despite a four-goal performance by Eric Nystrom.

David Jones tallied twice, Mikael Backlund collected a goal and an assist and captain Mark Giordano also tallied for Calgary, which rallied from a 4-2 deficit in the third period. Karri Ramo allowed three goals on 12 shots before being replaced by Reto Berra, who finished with 12 saves.

Defenseman Roman Josi recorded a pair of assists before extending the shootout with a goal in the third round. Devan Dubnyk turned aside 27 shots in his second start for Nashville since being acquired from Edmonton.

After recovering a loose puck in the slot, Nystrom beat Ramo 1:51 into the game, but Giordano answered with a power-play goal 1:32 later on a blast from the right point. Nystrom buried a rebound 1:50 into the second session and was credited with his first career hat trick when Paul Gaustad’s shot went in off his foot 4:10 later.

Jones scored on the power play 1:24 into the third, but Nystrom redirected Matt Cullen’s pass under Berra at 10:47 to complete his career night and restore the two-goal lead. Backlund pulled the Flames within one during a 5-on-3 advantage at 12:27 and Jones tied it 69 seconds later, deflecting a shot by defenseman T.J. Brodie from the left point.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Calgary scored three power-play goals for the second time this season and tallied with a two-man advantage for the first time. … Nystrom scored 19 goals in 204 games with the Flames after they selected him 10th overall in the 2002 draft. … Calgary D Ladislav Smid was held out of the lineup with an undisclosed injury.
