Stars 5, Canucks 1: Cody Eakin and Jamie Benn each recorded a goal and an assist as host Dallas posted its sixth win in seven games.

Vernon Fiddler, Ray Whitney and Erik Cole also scored while Kari Lehtonen made 37 saves in his return from injury for the Stars, who climbed within two points of Columbus for eighth place in the Western Conference.

Derek Roy scored against his former team and Cory Schneider stopped 25 shots for the Northwest Division-leading Canucks, who would have clinched a playoff spot with a victory. Vancouver completed a 2-2-1 road trip and remained four points ahead of division rival Minnesota.

After Roy gave the Canucks a 1-0 lead at 6:38 of the second period, Fiddler converted a cross-slot pass from Eric Nystrom 5 1/2 minutes later to begin Dallas' run of five unanswered goals. Eakin snapped the tie 96 seconds into the third with a wrist shot from the top of the slot and Benn beat Schneider from the inner edge of the right faceoff circle after Canucks defenseman Keith Ballard overskated the puck to make it 3-1.

Whitney extended the lead by burying a rebound at 7:03 and Cole capped the scoring with a power-play goal with 1:42 remaining.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Whitney's goal extended his point streak to six games. The veteran has four tallies and six assists during the run. ... Roy, who was acquired from Dallas at the trade deadline, scored his second goal in eight games with the Canucks. ... Lehtonen, who had missed three games with a groin injury, has won each of his last three decisions.
