Jets 4, Sabres 1: Captain Andrew Ladd scored to snap a 13-game goal-scoring drought and added an assist as host Winnipeg pulled even in points with the eighth-place New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference.

Kyle Wellwood also scored and Aaron Gagnon notched his first career goal to back 29 saves from Ondrej Pavelec as the Jets defeated Buffalo for the fifth consecutive time. Winnipeg, which has played two more games than New York, remained two points behind Southeast Division-leading Washington. The Capitals skated to a 3-2 win over Montreal on Tuesday.

Kevin Porter scored the only goal for the Sabres, who had their three-game win streak snapped and fell four points out of eighth place.

Just as they had done in Saturday's 4-1 win over Philadelphia, the Jets took control with a big second period. Wellwood collected a rebound in the slot and beat Ryan Miller (26 saves) at 4:54 of the session.

Gagnon doubled the advantage just over five minutes later when he buried a one-timer from the slot and Ladd supplied the dagger by scoring with only 22 seconds remaining in the period.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Blake Wheeler added an empty-net tally for the Jets, ending his 10-game goal drought. ... Sabres leading scorer Thomas Vanek returned to the lineup after missing the past six games with an upper-body injury. ... Wellwood's goal extended his points streak to four games. ... Winnipeg D Tobias Enstrom exited the contest during the first period and did not return. He is listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
