Penguins 5, Capitals 2: Captain Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin had a goal and two assists apiece as host Pittsburgh scored five times in the second period en route to its fifth straight victory.

Pascal Dupuis, James Neal and Matt Cooke also scored in the middle session - with the latter two tallying 11 seconds apart - as the Penguins outshot the Capitals 18-6 in the period and routed them for the second time in five days. Crosby, Malkin and Neal scored on the power play as Pittsburgh went 3-for-4 with the man advantage.

Mike Ribeiro scored in the first period and captain Alex Ovechkin added a power-play goal in the third for the Capitals (2-8-1), who fell to 8-1-2 in their last 11 trips to Pittsburgh. Michal Neuvirth allowed two goals on 11 shots before being replaced by Braden Holtby, who stopped 14 of 17 shots.

Malkin accepted a feed from Crosby and had plenty of time to pick the upper left corner of the net over Neuvirth's glove to tie the game at 1-1. Dupuis chased Neuvirth when he swatted a bouncing puck from the bottom of the right circle between his pads at 12:49.

Neal took a feed from Chris Kunitz, skated through the crease and slid the puck past the outstretched left leg of Holtby. Brandon Sutter then won a clean faceoff to Cooke, who beat Holtby with a wrist shot from the top of the right circle. Crosby batted Malkin's shot out of mid-air while skating hard toward the right post with 21.1 seconds left in the period.
