Matt Duchene's goal early in the third period stood as the game winner as the Colorado Avalanche edged the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 Sunday for their first home win of the season.

Duchene capitalized on a Kings turnover in the neutral zone, using a Los Angeles defender as a screen before wiring a shot to the top corner past netminder Jonathan Quick.

It was just the second goal of the season for the third-year forward, and his first in seven games.

Chuck Kobasew scored his first career shorthanded goal and Milan Hejduk added a second-period power-play marker for the Avalanche, who had opened their home schedule with three straight defeats. Kyle Quincey and David Jones added two assists apiece.

Scott Parse and Anze Kopitar had man-advantage goals for the Kings, who failed to register at least one point for just the second time in their last nine games (5-2-2).
