Devin Setoguchi scored 3:09 into overtime as the San Jose Sharks overcame a four-goal deficit to record a 6-5 road triumph over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday in Game 3 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series.

Ryane Clowe tallied twice and Calder Trophy finalist Logan Couture, Patrick Marleau and Joe Pavelski also tallied during a franchise-best five-goal second period for Pacific Division champion San Jose. The Sharks claimed a 2-1 edge in the series heading into Thursday's Game 4 at the Staples Center.

San Jose's victory marked the fourth time in NHL playoff history that a team rallied from four or more goals to win. The Minnesota North Stars last accomplished the feat on April 28, 1985 with a 5-4 overtime victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Antti Niemi permitted four goals on 10 shots before being relieved 44 seconds into the second period by fellow Finn Antero Niittymaki, who made 11 saves.

In overtime, captain Joe Thornton wired a centering feed to Setoguchi, who wristed it past Jonathan Quick for the game-winner and his first tally of the postseason.

After Los Angeles cruised to a 4-0 lead, San Jose managed to chip away as Marleau and Clowe scored 3:45 apart in the second period and Couture trimmed the deficit to one with his second goal of the series.

Ryan Smyth answered just 15 seconds later with his 27th career playoff goal, but Clowe netted his second tally of the night on the doorstep and Pavelski cleaned up a loose puck in the slot to tie the score at 5-5 with 31 seconds remaining in the session.

Defenseman Willie Mitchell and Kyle Clifford scored 13 seconds apart early in the first period, Brad Richardson collected a goal and an assist and Michal Handzus also tallied for seventh-seeded Los Angeles.

Quick settled down after a chaotic second period to finish with 30 saves for the Kings.
