Captain Rick Nash collected a goal and an assist as the Columbus Blue Jackets spoiled Peter Forsberg's return to the ice with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Colorado Avalanche on Friday.

Derick Brassard and Derek MacKenzie each added a goal and Mathieu Garon made 31 saves for the Blue Jackets, who pulled to within five points of the Calgary Flames for the eighth spot in the Western Conference. The Flames earned a point in a 5-4 overtime loss to Anaheim later Friday.

The Avalanche have dropped six straight games and remain seven points behind the Flames. Forsberg, who had not played in the NHL since 2008, was a minus-2 in 22 shifts on Friday.

Colorado took the lead in at the 15:54 mark in the first when Philippe Dupuis picked off a pass and beat Garon for an unassisted tally.

Columbus got that one back in the second on Nash’s 25th goal of the season and secured the lead at the 14:02 mark when Nash found Brassard for his 14th tally. MacKenzie’s empty netter late in the third sealed the win.

Peter Budaj made 29 saves for the Avalanche.
