The Indianapolis Colts were looking for quarterback Andrew Luck to show some momentum. On Saturday, they saw some.

Luck, who didn't play last season because of a shoulder injury that required labrum surgery in January, played most of the first half, completing 8 of 10 passes for 90 yards and a touchdown as the Colts defeated the San Francisco 49ers 23-17 in Indianapolis.

Luck ran the offense on four drives, and on one of them, he and tight end Eric Ebron connected for a 15-yard scoring play late in the second quarter.

Luck, who also missed significant playing time in 2015, isn't expected to play in the Colts' final preseason game on Thursday against the Cincinnati Bengals. In his three games, he hit on 20 of 32 passes for 204 yards. Saturday's scoring toss was his only one of the preseason, and he was intercepted once as well.

Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett went 7-of-13 passing for 120 yards in relief of Luck. Ebron led Colts receivers with 54 yards on four catches, and rookie wide receiver Seantavirus Jones made his one reception count, going for 53 yards.

The 49ers' focus was on linebacker Reuben Foster, who suffered a concussion in the second half.

Foster, who recorded 72 tackles in his rookie season in 2017 after starring at Alabama, left the preseason game in the third quarter after someone landed awkwardly on his head. Foster left the field and immediately went to the team's medical tent.

In July, Foster was suspended for the first two games of the regular season after violating the NFL's conduct and substance abuse policies.

San Francisco quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who finished strong for the 49ers last season after he was acquired from the New England Patriots, went 9-of-19 passing for 135 yards. C.J. Beathard came on to complete 7 of 8 passes for 83 yards.

Niners running back Alfred Morris rushed for a game-high 84 yards on 17 carries.
