Chargers 37, Chiefs 20: Philip Rivers threw two touchdown passes and visiting San Diego capitalized on six turnovers to throttle Kansas City.

Jackie Battle, starting in place of Ryan Mathews, added a pair of short touchdowns - one rushing, one receiving - as the Chargers (3-1) raced to a 20-0 lead and were never threatened in the AFC West matchup.

Rivers completed 18 of 23 passes for 209 yards and threw 4-yard TD passes to Eddie Royal and Battle as San Diego bounced back from last week's humbling 27-3 home loss to Atlanta.

Nick Novak, signed late in the week after placekicker Nate Kaeding was ruled out with a groin injury, converted on all three field-goal attempts from 24, 47 and 45 yards as the Chargers beat the Chiefs (1-3) for the eighth time in 10 meetings.

Kansas City's Jamaal Charles rushed for 92 yards and a TD and had a 13-yard scoring reception, but also lost two fumbles, including one at his own 5-yard line to set up Battle's first score and a 17-0 lead in the first quarter. Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel was 24-of-42 for 251 yards with two TDs and three interceptions.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Rivers finished the day with 25,182 career yards, joining John Hadl and Dan Fouts as San Diego quarterbacks to surpass 25,000 career yards. ... Dwayne Bowe had seven catches for 108 yards and a TD for the Chiefs, who became the first team to commit five first-half turnovers since the Arizona Cardinals on Dec. 14, 2009. ... The Chargers went three-and-out on all three third-quarter possessions and had a total of minus-1 yard for the quarter.
