Mississippi State survived with a 21-20 win over Ole Miss in an intense Egg Bowl game when Rebels kicker Luke Logan missed an extra-point attempt with four seconds left that could have tied the game Thursday night at Starkville, Miss.

After a pass-interference call, Ole Miss (4-8) had a first-and-goal at the 2-yard line with 12 seconds left. Backup quarterback Matt Corral was stopped for no gain, and defensive tackle Willie Gay Jr. then knocked down Corral's second-down pass. Corral followed with a 2-yard pass to Elijah Moore for a touchdown, cutting the Bulldogs' lead to 21-20.

An unsportsmanlike penalty for excessive celebration on Moore forced Logan to try a 35-yard extra-point attempt, and the kick missed, wide right.

Ole Miss' onside kick failed, and Mississippi State ran out the clock.

Mississippi State freshman quarterback Garrett Shrader rushed for two touchdowns, and Kylin Hill rushed for 132 yards on 27 carries for the Bulldogs.

Mississippi State (6-6) became bowl-eligible for the 10th consecutive season. The win by the Bulldogs also ended a four-year run in which the visiting team won the rivalry game.

Ole Miss threatened on its last possession after Corral completed a 57-yard pass to Braylon Sanders to the Mississippi State 29 on a fourth-and-24 play. A roughing-the-passer penalty advanced the ball to the Bulldogs' 15.

On a fourth-and-4 play, Corral completed a pass in the end zone, but the play was ruled dead after a defensive offside penalty in which the defender was unabated to the quarterback. The wild sequence followed with the touchdown and failed extra point.

Mississippi State went ahead 21-14 with 3:24 left in the third quarter on a 5-yard scoring run by Shrader, who started in place of senior Tommy Stevens.

In last week's game against Abilene Christian, Stevens sustained bruised ribs, and he subsequently was unable to practice. Stevens, who watched the game in street clothes, started eight games this season after transferring from Penn State.

Shrader completed 10 of 14 passes for 108 yards and rushed 12 times for 19 yards and two scores.

Corral ended up 6 of 12 for 124 yards with a touchdown and an interception while teammate John Rhys Plumlee was 9 of 14 for 121 yards. Plumlee also ran for a touchdown for Ole Miss, as did Jerrion Ealy, who gained 82 yards on 15 carries.
