Tanner Morgan threw four touchdown passes, three to wide receiver Rashod Bateman, and No. 10 Minnesota set a school record for most Big Ten wins in a season by defeating Northwestern 38-22 on Saturday in Evanston, Ill.

Minnesota (10-1, 7-1 Big Ten), which bounced back from a loss at Iowa, had never previously won more than six Big Ten games. Morgan completed 15 of 23 passes for 211 yards.

Bateman caught seven passes for 78 yards, while Tyler Johnson hauled in seven passes for 125 yards and one touchdown.

Northwestern starting quarterback Hunter Johnson left the game with concussion-like symptoms after being sacked in the second quarter.

Backup Andrew Marty completed eight of his 10 passes for 95 yards and a touchdown, and he also rushed 16 times for 52 yards and two scores for the Wildcats (2-9, 0-8).

The Golden Gophers scored touchdowns on their first three possessions and led 21-9 at halftime.

A 19-yard pass from Morgan to Bateman finished the first drive. Following a three-and-out by Northwestern, the Gophers only needed to go 45 yards to score again. Shannon Brooks' 9-yard run completed that possession.

Minnesota drove 73 yards on eight plays the next time it had the ball. Morgan's second touchdown pass to Bateman, a 10-yarder, made it 21-0. A 26-yard pass to Johnson set up that score.

Northwestern got on the board with a safety when Morgan was flagged for intentional grounding in the end zone. Joe Gaziano was credited with a sack on the play.

The Wildcats scored their first offensive points during the ensuing possession. The 14-play drive was completed when Marty hit Jace James on a 9-yard completion.

The Morgan-Bateman duo connected again early in the second half. That 7-yard touchdown pass capped a 73-yard drive for a 28-9 Minnesota lead.

Northwestern came right back with a 15-play drive. Marty scored on a 2-yard run.

Morgan's fourth scoring pass, a 17-yarder to Johnson with 13:20 remaining, increased Minnesota's lead to 35-16.

After Michael Lantz's 37-yard field goal made it 38-16, Marty scored from a yard out.
