Mitch Trubisky threw three touchdown passes and North Carolina scored touchdowns on all five of its full first-half possession on the way to a 56-28 throttling of James Madison on Saturday at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Running back T.J. Logan scored on three touchdown runs and running back Elijah Hood added two rushing touchdowns for North Carolina, which trailed 21-14 at the end of the first quarter. Hood rushed for 106 yards on 18 carries.

All eight North Carolina touchdown drives went for more than 70 yards. The Tar Heels had 635 yards of total offense.

Trubisky, a redshirt junior, completed 24 of 27 passes for 432 yards in his first home start in what was the home opener for the Tar Heels (2-1). Receiver Ryan Switzer had a touchdown catch among his five receptions for 101 yards.

North Carolina went ahead for good on Trubisky's 71-yard scoring pass to wide receiver Mack Hollins in the second quarter.

Logan scored in the first quarter from 6 yards, in the third quarter from 7 yards and in the fourth quarter from 5 yards.

James Madison running back Khalid Abdullah scored two touchdowns and gained 116 yards on 18 carries. He had 1-yard touchdown runs on the team's first two drives.

The Dukes (2-1), who play on the Football Championship Subdivision, scored first by going on an 80-yard drive. They posted touchdowns on their first three possessions before a couple of second-quarter ventures into North Carolina territory went for naught.

James Madison quarterback Bryan Schor connected on 14 of 22 passes for 218 yards and one touchdown. The Dukes ended up with 495 yards of total offense.
