OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss needed a win in the worst way and winless New Mexico State played the role of homecoming opponent perfectly.

The No. 14 Rebels entered their matchup with the Aggies on Saturday as a 45-point favorite and left Vaught-Hemingway Stadium with a 52-3 victory. It was a better result than last week, when Ole Miss suffered its first loss at the hands of Florida 38-10.

New Mexico State (0-5) has allowed 235 points this season, including 61 to Florida.

"It was good to see our kids compete and come away with a win," said Rebels coach Hugh Freeze, who added that he felt like the team needs him to be more passionate in the second half of the season. "It was good to play a day game after two at night. Hopefully we can use that time wisely to recover. There were some good individual efforts, and some things we need to continue to improve on."

Despite a less-than-inspired start, Ole Miss (5-1) scored on its first three drives and led 31-3 at halftime. With his uncle Jim Kelly and other family members in the stadium, Quarterback Chad Kelly accounted for two touchdowns - one through the air and one on the ground - in the first half.

He completed 20 of his 25 passes for 310 yards in the first half and wrapped up his day with 384 yards and three touchdowns through the air. It was the fourth time Kelly went over 300 yards this season, tying him for the single-season school record.

The Rebels had 365 yards of total offense in the first half. About the only thing that didn't go well for Kelly was the interception he threw in the second quarter. There were still things Freeze said he thought Kelly could do better, but also reminded himself that he was only six games into his time in Oxford.

"He was solid, but there were just too many decisions made that resulted in negative plays," Freeze said. "There are things I want to call that we haven't worked all week and I did that a couple of times to him and those typically don't work out too well. I got to quit putting him in those positions."

Running back Jordan Wilkins broke a 3-3 tie with an 11-yard run in the first quarter, while running back Akeem Judd got into the end zone on the last play of the first quarter on a 3-yard run. Kelly added to the lead with a 66-yard toss to wide-open receiver Markell Pack and capped the first-half scoring with a 4-yard run.

The play of the day belonged to Ole Miss receiver Laquon Treadwell, who made a one-handed grab of a Kelly pass that resulted in a 37-yard touchdown late in the third quarter. Treadwell had his best game of the season as he finished with eight catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns.

"Our kids played really hard. We played an elite football team, and they have more weapons than we do right now," Aggies coach Doug Martin said.

NOTES: The Rebels finished with 665 total yards, second-most in school history behind 751 versus Troy in 2013. ... Ole Miss posted four sacks and a season-high in tackles for loss (11). ... Rebels LB Terry Caldwell, making his first start, and freshman S Cameron Ordway, playing his first game, shared the team lead in tackles with five. ... Ole Miss visits undefeated Memphis next week.
