Sophomore quarterback Brad Kaaya threw a pair of touchdown passes and Miami (Fla.) came alive after a 75-minute lightning delay to post a comfortable 45-0 victory over Bethune-Cookman on Saturday in Miami Gardens, Fla.

Miami freshman running back Mark Walton rushed for a game-high 85 yards and senior wide receiver Rashawn Scott enjoyed a 100-yard night on six catches - one for a touchdown - in his first game back after missing all of 2014 and most of 2013 because of injuries.

The heavily favored Hurricanes (1-0) led 10-0 in the second quarter when the game was stopped, but stormed out of the delay by scoring touchdowns in three of their final four first-half possessions.

The third and fourth quarters were shortened to 10 minutes apiece.

Kaaya was 16-of-27 passing for 173 yards. He lost a fumble on the first play of the third quarter and played only one more series before retiring for the night.

Junior cornerback Corn Elder made a spectacular debut as a punt returner. After seeing his first (unofficial) return for a touchdown nullified by a teammate's illegal fair catch, he went 72 yards for a touchdown on his first official collegiate return.

The Hurricanes held the Wildcats to 79 yards in total offense in posting their first shutout since a 45-0 win over Florida A&M in the 2010 season opener.
