Zach Mettenberger passed for a school-record five touchdowns – three to Odell Beckham Jr. -- as the Tigers won their home opener.

Mettenberger completed 16-of-19 passes for 282 yards as LSU (2-0) built a 28-0 second-quarter advantage, then pulled away in the second half. Beckham caught five passes for 136 yards as the Tigers finished with 445 yards of total offense.

Darrin Reaves rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown for Alabama-Birmingham. The Blazers (0-2) scored 17 points in the final 11:11 of the second quarter, but could not do anything offensively after halftime.

Mettenberger hit Beckham on touchdown passes of 29 and 22 yards in the first quarter, and touchdown runs by Kenny Hilliard (1 yard) and Jeremy Hill (3 yards) made it 28-0 Tigers. After Reaves’ touchdown run, Mettenberger found Jarvis Landry for a 24-yard touchdown and a 35-7 advantage with 8:01 left before halftime.

Austin Brown’s 41-yard touchdown pass to Jamarcus Nelson and Ty Long’s 24-yard field goal brought the Blazers within 35-17 at halftime. Mettenberger found Beckham on a 27-yard touchdown a little less than three minutes into the second half, and a 14-yard scoring pass to Landry with 6:16 left in the quarter put the Tigers up 49-17.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hill, who did not play in LSU’s season-opening victory against TCU last week due to an offseason arrest, rushed six times for 50 yards. … Landry added 71 yards receiving. … The Tigers have won 38 consecutive home non-conference games.
