Backup quarterback Dylan Thompson passed for 310 yards and three touchdowns, leading the visiting Gamecocks past their state rivals.

Starting for the injured Connor Shaw, Thompson hit Ace Sanders for a 34-yard touchdown with 11:48 remaining in the third quarter to give South Carolina (10-2) the lead for good at 17-14.

Clemson (10-2) led 14-10 at halftime after a Tajh Boyd 3-yard touchdown run and a 43-yard touchdown pass from Boyd to DeAndre Hopkins.

The Gamecocks held a slender 20-17 advantage going to the fourth quarter. Thompson found Bruce Ellington for a 6-yard touchdown with 4:17 remaining, capping a 13-play, 65-yard drive to give South Carolina a 27-17 lead.

Boyd finished 11-for-24 for 183 yards with two interceptions.
