Junior quarterback Joe Southwick threw three first-half touchdown passes and the visiting Broncos held the Warriors to minus-14 yards rushing while remaining in the Mountain West title chase with the blowout win.

Southwick, who entered the game with only 10 touchdown passes in nine games, had three in the first half alone as Boise State (8-2, 5-1) built up a 35-7 halftime lead. He completed 17-of-29 passes for 209 yards before giving way to backup Grant Hedrick at the start of the fourth quarter.

Hawaii (1-8, 0-6) finished with 240 total yards. The Warriors, who had an extra week to prepare for the game, had ony 67 total yards and four first downs in the first half.

One bright spot for the Warriors was cornerback Mike Edwards, who had a 100-yard kickoff return in the first quarter to tie the game 7-7. It was the third kickoff return for a touchdown this season for Edwards and marked the second straight week that Boise State yielded a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Sophomore defensive end Demarcus Lawrence had a 25-yard return of a fumble by Hawaii quarterback Sean Schroeder for Boise State's first touchdown in the second half.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hawaii freshman running back Will Gregory, who entered the contest ranked ninth in the Mountain West in rushing with an average of 70.1 yards per game, was ejected after receiving a personal foul for punching on the Warriors' first punt of the game. ... Boise State has allowed only two passing touchdowns this season, fewest in the nation. ... Hawaii has now lost seven straight games, the third-longest losing streak in school history and the longest since 1998 when the Warriors finished the season 0-12.
