Oregon State 10, No. 13 Wisconsin 7: Sean Mannion passed for 276 yards and host Oregon State delivered a stellar defensive performance while upsetting 13th-ranked Wisconsin.

Mannion threw a third-quarter touchdown pass to Brandin Cooks and the Beavers (1-0) seldom allowed Wisconsin star back Montee Ball any room to run, holding the Heisman Trophy candidate to 61 yards on 15 carries.

Oregon State held the Badgers (1-1) to 207 total yards and snapped Wisconsin’s 33-game non-conference regular-season winning streak.

Ball’s streak of 21 consecutive games of scoring a touchdown also was halted as the Badgers came close to being blanked for the first time since a 34-0 loss to Syracuse in 1997.

The Badgers averted the shutout when Danny O’Brien tossed an 11-yard scoring pass to Jacob Pederson with 1:31 remaining. Wisconsin recovered the ensuing onside kick, but a replay review displayed that the ball hit the left arm of sliding kicker Kyle French about two feet before traveling 10 yards. Oregon State was awarded the ball and ran out the clock.

Wisconsin was 2-for-14 on third-down conversions, both coming in the final two minutes.

Oregon State led 3-0 at halftime and came out strong to start the second half, traveling 86 yards on 11 plays. Cooks ran wide open through the center of the Wisconsin secondary to haul in the 20-yard scoring pass from Mannion to make it 10-0 with 9:33 left in the third quarter.

A 43-yard field goal by Trevor Romaine with 13:03 left in the second quarter was the only points in the opening half.

The Beavers held Wisconsin to 64 first-half yards with Ball having just 33 yards on eight rushes.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Mannion has 12 consecutive 200-yard passing outings. … Wisconsin WR Jared Abbrederis left the contest midway through the second quarter and was taken to a nearby hospital after taking a hard shot to the chest. … Markus Wheaton caught eight passes for 87 yards and moved into 10th place in Oregon State history with 1,837 receiving yards. … The Badgers were scoreless at halftime for the first time since a 2006 contest against San Diego State. Wisconsin won that contest 14-0.
