TCU rushed for six touchdowns to clinch its third consecutive Mountain West title with an easy 56-9 victory over UNLV on Saturday at a rainy Amon G. Carter Stadium.

The 17th-ranked Horned Frogs (10-2, 7-0 Mountain West) finished the regular season on a seven-game winning streak and now have a shot at a BCS bowl berth if they move up two spots to No. 16 in the next BCS standings.

Waymon James scored two touchdowns on the ground for TCU, which won its record 24th consecutive league game.

UNLV (2-10, 1-6 Mountain West) trailed only 7-3 after one quarter, but things unraveled quickly in the last seven minutes before halftime. The Horned Frogs scored 28 points in the back half of the second quarter to take a commanding 35-6 lead into halftime.

A blocked punt set up Matthew Tucker’s rumbling 32-yard touchdown run up the middle to make it 21-3. Then, after a UNLV field goal, Greg McCoy ran the kickoff back 99 yards to give TCU a 28-6 lead.

That was McCoy’s third kick-return touchdown of his career and second this season.

On the Rebels’ first play of their next possession, TCU linebacker Kris Gardner jumped on a quick out to pick off Taylor Barnhill’s pass and return it 16 yards for a score.

TCU coach Gary Patterson reached at least 10 wins for the sixth time in the last seven seasons.

The Rebels lost their 16th straight road game, dating back to 2009.
