Iowa used a balanced offense to secure its first road win of the season, 31-21, over Purdue on Saturday.

Marvin McNutt, the Big Ten’s second-leading receiver, caught two touchdowns and finished with 151 yards receiving to eclipse the 100-yard mark for a fifth straight game. Marcus Coker, the conference’s second-leading rusher, ran for 139 yards and a touchdown to keep Iowa (7-4, 4-3 Big Ten) in contention for a prestigious bowl game. Iowa lost its three previous road games by a combined 14 points but Saturday’s breakthrough now means it could finish as high as second in the Legends Division with a win over No. 16 Nebraska on Friday.

Purdue (5-6, 3-4 Big Ten) failed to capitalize on the momentum of last week’s upset win over Ohio State and must now beat rival Indiana in the season finale to snap a three-year bowl drought. The Hoosiers won last season's in-state clash.

The Boilermakers committed four turnovers, including an interception late in the third quarter that led to a McNutt 51-yard touchdown to give the Hawkeyes a commanding 31-14 lead. It was the third scoring strike thrown by James Vandenberg, who finished with 273 yards on 22-of-32 passing. The third quarter continued to doom Purdue, which has been shut out in the period for five straight games.
