No. 7 Wisconsin scored 34 unanswered points and gave No. 8 Nebraska a sour first taste of the Big Ten with a 48-17 victory on Saturday in Madison, Wis.

In what many projected to be a preview of the inaugural Big Ten Championship Game in December, the Badgers (5-0, 1-0 Big Ten) overwhelmed the Huskers with a potent offensive attack, led by Heisman hopeful quarterback Russell Wilson.

Nebraska, playing its first conference game as a member of the Big Ten, jumped to a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter, but Wilson took over from there. The senior threw two touchdowns in the final 2:03 of the first half, the second on a beautifully thrown 46-yard pass over the middle to Nick Toon to give the Badgers a 27-14 halftime lead.

Antonio Fenelus picked off Huskers’ quarterback Taylor Martinez on Nebraska’s first play of the second half, and seven plays later, Wilson scampered into the end zone from 10 yards out to put Wisconsin on top 34-14.

Martinez threw three interceptions that turned into 21 points for the Badgers.

Running back Montee Ball scored four touchdowns, giving him 14 this season as Wisconsin has won 12 straight regular-season games. Ball finished with 151 yards.

Nebraska (4-1, 0-1) was coming off back-to-back 300-yard rushing games and was the Big Ten’s top rushing team, but Wisconsin’s stout defense held the Huskers to 159 yards on 43 carries, and a good chunk of that came on a meaningless drive at the end of the game.

Nebraska lost for only the third time in its last 37 conference-opening games and allowed its most points in a conference game since a 62-28 loss to Oklahoma in 2008.

Wisconsin has defeated its five opponents by a combined 242-51.
