Seth Doege threw three touchdown passes and Texas Tech won a 45-34 shootout over Kansas in the Big 12 opener for both teams.

Eric Stephens added two touchdown runs for the Red Raiders (4-0, 1-0 Big 12), who rallied from a 20-point deficit to record their seventh straight win dating to last season. Texas Tech also continued its dominance of Kansas with its fifth straight win in the series and seventh consecutive victory in Lawrence. The Red Raiders have won 12 of 13 all-time meetings.

Kansas (2-2, 0-1) started strong, but the worst defense in the FBS quickly coughed up a big lead. Two weeks after being steamrolled for 604 rushing yards in a 66-24 loss to Georgia Tech, the Jayhawks allowed 21 unanswered points twice – once in the first half and again at the start of the second half.

Texas Tech took control by scoring three times in the span of 8:34 in the third. Stephens’ 8-yard touchdown run capped a 90-yard drive and gave the Red Raiders the lead for good at 31-27. Eric Ward’s second touchdown catch – an 18-yard reception in which he held on to a deflected pass after slamming to the turf – made it 45-27 with 2:49 left in the third.

Jordan Webb threw three touchdowns and three interceptions for the Jayhawks, who fell 4-24 against teams from the Big 12 South since 2002.
