Host North Carolina overcame five turnovers to beat Rutgers 24-22, giving interim coach Everett Withers a 2-0 start.

UNC sophomore Bryn Renner picked up where he left off last week, hitting Dwight Jones in stride down the sideline for a 66-yard score on the first possession.

But Renner threw three interceptions, and the Tar Heels fumbled five times, losing two. North Carolina even fumbled while trying to take a knee at the end, but fortunately recovered.

Rutgers quarterback Chas Dodd threw for 243 yards and two scores, including a 5-yard touchdown to Tim Wright early in the fourth quarter. But it wasn’t enough as the Scarlet Knights fell to 3-3 all-time against the Tar Heels.

Ryan Houston sealed the win with a 33-yard run that kept Rutgers from getting the ball back.
