James White took an option toss and dashed 4 yards for a touchdown in the third overtime, lifting host Iowa State to a 44-41 win over rival Iowa.

Cyclones fans stormed the field after the team's first win over the Hawkeyes in four tries. Iowa won the previous three by a combined 87-15 margin, but this one was tight throughout.

The Hawkeyes (1-1) kicked a field goal to start the third overtime. Cyclones quarterback Steele Jantz moved his team into scoring position, then made the perfect pitch to White for the game-winner.

Marvin McNutt’s 29-yard catch set up Marcus Coker’s 1-yard touchdown run with 5:50 left in regulation, and a 2-point conversion made it 24-17 Iowa. But Jantz led the Cyclones (2-0) on a 59-yard touchdown drive, scrambling to find Darius Darks for a 4-yard score that forced overtime.

Mike Meyer booted four field goals, including a 50-yarder, for the Hawkeyes, who fell to 16-8 all-time in Ames.
