Wide receiver T.Y. Hilton caught touchdown passes of 74 and 83 yards, and finished with a school-record 201 yards to lead Florida International to a 24-17 upset of host Louisville on Friday.

Florida International, the youngest FBS football program in the nation, had never beaten a BCS school in its nine previous years.

Hilton, an NFL prospect and the Panthers’ career leader in four statistical categories, scored both touchdowns in the first half to help the Panthers build a 21-3 lead.

On Hilton’s first score, he caught a quick slant and blew past the safeties. On his second, he burned by a Louisville linebacker down the middle.

Wesley Carroll passed for 248 yards for Florida International, the defending Sun Belt Conference champion.

Will Stein threw for 349 yards and two touchdowns for Louisville, but his interception on the Cardinals’ first drive was returned 71 yards for a touchdown by Winston Fraser to put Florida International ahead 7-0.

Louisville had a 17-game winning streak against Sun Belt Conference teams - dating to 1981 - snapped.

Florida International moved to 2-8 in road openers. The Panthers only previous win came in 2004 against FCS opponent Youngstown State.

This was the first meeting between the schools.
