Morgan Newton threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to La’Rod King and Josh Clemons had a 14-yard TD run as Kentucky defeated Western Kentucky 14-3 on Thursday in Nashville, Tenn.

The Wildcats had 75 total yards of offense through three quarters, but gained 80 on a drive in the fourth quarter which was capped by Newton’s strike to King with 4:35 left.

Clemons' touchdown, which gave Kentucky a 7-3 halftime lead, was set up by Winston Guy's interception of a Kawaun Jakes' pass that gave the Wildcats the ball at the Hilltoppers 22.

It was not a good night for the quarterbacks as Newton and Jakes combined to complete 16-of-44 passes for 190 yards and seven interceptions.

Western Kentucky running back Bobby Rainey racked up 105 yards on 28 carries to crack the century mark for the 13th time in his career.

The three points marked the lowest total in the tenure of coach Willie Taggart, who was opening his second season at his alma mater.
