Colorado, playing its first game after the termination of head coach Dan Hawkins, pasted Iowa State 34-14 Saturday, in Boulder, Colo.

Cody Hawkins, son of the ex-head coach, threw three touchdown passes to lead the Buffaloes to their first conference win of the season. Hawkins completed 16- of-24 passes for 266 yards.

The Cyclones (5-6, 3-4 Big 12) suffered their second straight defeat and may have lost their starting quarterback.

Austen Arnaud left the game with an apparent knee injury after being sacked in the fourth quarter. Arnaud fumbled on the play, and Michael Sipili recovered and returned the fumble 45 yards for a touchdown that put Colorado up 34-7 early in the fourth quarter.

Colorado (4-6, 1-5 Big 12) blew a 28-point fourth-quarter lead in last week's loss to Kansas, but the Buffaloes wouldn't let this one slip away.

The Buffaloes' defense limited Iowa State to 229 total yards and forced two turnovers.
