The Bulls improved to 5-3, while the Scarlet Knights dropped to 4-4.

Trailing 27-22 in the fourth quarter, USF scored the winning touchdown when tackle Jacob Sims recovered a Plancher fumble in the end zone.

Bulls quarterback BJ Daniels passed for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Rutgers freshman quarterback Chas Dodd completed 19 of 22 passes for 141 yards but was sacked twice in the loss.

With the score tied 17-17 at halftime, Joe Martinek culminated a 74-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run giving the Scarlet Knights a 24-17 lead.

The Bulls then went ahead 28-27 on the fourth lead change of the evening on Sims' fumble recovery.

The Bulls' victory was the 100th in the school's history.
