Evan Royster ran for 150 yards to become Penn State’s all-time rushing leader, and quarterback Matt McGloin led the Nittany Lions to four first-half touchdowns in his first start as they defeated Michigan 41-31 in the Big 10 on Saturday night.

Michigan quarterback and Heisman Trophy hopeful Denard Robinson ran for 191 yards and three touchdowns, and passed for 190 yards and another score.

McGloin completed 17-of-28 passing for 250 yards as Penn State (5-3, 2-2 Big Ten) won its second straight game, and move within one game of becoming bowl eligible. It was also the Lions’ third straight victory over Michigan, and the 399th in the illustrious career of Joe Paterno.

Penn State had struggled moving the ball all season, but they had no trouble against Michigan (5-3, 1-3 Big Ten), which entered allowing 441 yards per game.

Penn State compiled 246 yards in the first half and 435 total. The Lions were 4-of-6 converting on third down in the first half after they were 7 of their previous 37.

Royster topped 100 yards for the third straight season against Michigan, and scored on runs of 4 yards and 1 yard. He has 3,517 career yards, 119 more than Curt Warner.

McGloin had a 1-yard touchdown plunge before hooking up with Graham Zug for a 20-yard touchdown and a 28-10 halftime bulge.

Robinson, who was 11-of-23 passing, rallied Michigan to within 38-31 with a pair of touchdown runs in the second half, but Collin Wagner’s 42-yard field goal with 5:43 left, and Robinson’s errant pass on 4th down on the ensuing possession sealed the game.
