Renfree was nearly perfect, completing 28 of 30 passes for 313 yards. He ran for touchdowns of 1 and 12 yards as the Blue Devils (2-6) build a 24-0 halftime lead. He added a 29-yard touchdown pass to Conner Vernon in the third quarter. Vernon caught five passes for 90 yards.

Quarterback Ricky Dobbs nearly led the Midshipmen (5-3) all the way back in the second half, throwing a pair of touchdown passes and rushing for another score. His second touchdown pass pulled Navy within 34-31 with 2:34 left, but the Midshipmen turned it over on downs on their last-ditch attempt.

Dobbs threw for 227 yards on 13-of-27 passing and rushed for 83 yards on 22 carries. Greg Jones was on the receiving end of nine of Dobbs' passes for 136 yards and a score.

The Blue Devils held Navy's ninth-ranked rushing offense to 148 yards on the ground, well below its average of 274.4 yards per game.

The Midshipmen could have clinched an automatic bid to the Poinsettia Bowl with a victory.
