Senior running back Roy Helu Jr. ran a for a school-record 307 yards and three touchdowns, as the Nebraska Cornhuskers defeated the Missouri Tigers 31-17.

The Huskers (7-1, 3-1 Big 12) overcame a gutty comeback performance by the Tigers (7-1, 3-1 Big 12) and the loss of their starting quarterback for the win.

Nebraska scored on their first snap of the game, when Helu romped 66 yards to the end zone. Its lead stretched to 17-0 when Taylor Martinez connected with tight end Kyler Reed for a 40-yard touchdown. Two minutes later, Helu ran in from 73 yards to push the lead to 24-0 by the end of the first.

Martinez was injured just before half, when the redshirt freshman was hit low at the end of a 5-yard scramble. The play left him with a visible limp and he did not return in the second half.

2009 starter Zac Lee started the third quarter for Nebraska.

Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert passed for 200 yards and a touchdown, despite being harassed by the Blackshirt defense from Nebraska all afternoon. The junior led two scoring drives in the second half, but was sacked four times and intercepted once.

Helu’s third-quarter 53-yard touchdown run sealed the win for Nebraska.

The Huskers travel to Iowa State next week. Missouri will head to Texas Tech.
