Alexander Robinson ran for 112 yards and a touchdown as host Iowa State handled woeful Kansas 28-16 in Big 12 play Saturday.

Kansas (2-6, 0-4) led 9-7 at halftime thanks to three Jacob Branstetter field goals, but the Cyclones roared out of the break with three straight touchdown drives.
Robinson capped the first with a 2-yard run, Jeff Woody finished the second with a 3-yard run and Shontrelle Johnson applied the exclamation point with a 33-yard rushing score.

The Cyclones (5-4, 3-2) moved one win shy of bowl eligibility for the second straight year. Iowa State hasn’t gone to consecutive bowl games since 2004-05.

Iowa State’s lone score in the first half came on a 62-yard punt return by Josh Lenz.

Kansas, which dropped its 11th straight conference game, was forced to start junior college transfer Quinn Mecham at quarterback due to injuries to Jordan Webb and backup Kale Pick. Mecham finished 21-of-36 for 144 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.
