Backup quarterback Matt Scott threw for 320 yards and a touchdown as No. 16 Arizona held off UCLA 29-21 in a Pac-10 game Saturday in Los Angeles.

Juron Criner caught eight passes for 128 yards to help the Wildcats win their third straight.

Arizona led 19-7 at the half. Scott, who also rushed for 70 yards, threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Criner to open the scoring.

UCLA, which has lost three straight, tied the score on Derrick Coleman’s 11-yard run.

Arizona (7-1, 4-1) then got a 2-yard scoring run from Keola Antolin (23 carries, 110 yards) and a pair of field goals to close out the first half.

Richard Brehaut threw his first touchdown pass of the season in the third quarter as UCLA (3-5, 1-4) closed the gap to 19-14. Brehaut connected with Randall Carroll for a 68-yard score. But Arizona responded with a 13-play, 80-yard drive capped by a 1-yard run by Greg Nwoko to make it 26-14.

UCLA again closed the gap on Brehaut’s 49-yard scoring pass to Josh Smith and got the ball three more times with a chance to take the lead, but the Arizona defense stiffened.

Alex Zendejas kicked his third field goal of the game with 1:18 remaining to close out the scoring. Brehaut fumbled after a sack on UCLA’s final possession.

Scott was filling in for the injured Nick Foles. Brehaut started for Kevin Prince, who will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing knee surgery.
