Whitaker was nearly the goat after missing an extra point earlier in the game. But Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck drove the Cardinal down the field in the game's final minute to set up Whitaker's game-winner.

USC lost for the second straight week despite 390 yards and three touchdowns from Matt Barkley. Robert Woods was his favorite target and caught all three scores. Woods finished with 12 catches for 224 yards..

Stephan Taylor rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries for Stanford. Luck was 20 of 24 for 284 yards and three touchdowns.

Stanford improved to 5-2, 2-1 in the Pac-10; Southern California fell to 4-2, 1-2.
