After two weeks to stew about a sub-par offensive performance, the West Virginia Mountaineers came out and redeemed themselves.

Geno Smith threw three touchdown passes and Noel Devine ran for two scores to lead the Mountaineers to a 49-10 victory over UNLV on Saturday.

West Virginia (4-1) mustered only 177 yards in its loss to LSU two weeks ago, only the fifth time since 2001 that the Mountaineers failed to reach 200 yards of total offense. They fared much better against the Rebels, racking up 179 yards in the first quarter while building a 21-0 lead.

The Mountaineers led 35-0 at the half and extended their lead to 42-0 on a four-yard scoring strike from Smith to Brad Starks midway through the third quarter. Starks finished with 100 yards receiving on four catches, including all three of Smith's touchdowns.

Devine was limited to three rushes, but scored on two of them in the first half. He ripped off scoring runs of 28 and 48 yards and finished with 84 of West Virginia's 218 rushing yards.

It was a bounce-back day for the entire West Virginia offense but especially Smith, who completed 12 of 16 passes for 221 yards. He was harassed by the LSU defense and threw for just 119 yards in the loss two weeks ago.

UNLV (1-5) was held to 283 yards and had two turnovers.

Running back Tim Cornett had 56 yards on 12 carries and caught three passes for 18 yards and a touchdown for the Rebels, who have lost two straight.
