Ryan Nassib picked the perfect time to keep his touchdown streak alive.

Nassib threw a three-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Sales with 7:22 to play to lift Syracuse to a 13-9 victory over South Florida in the Big East Conference opener for both teams.

Nassib has now thrown a touchdown pass in each game for Syracuse (4-1, 1-0 Big East), which posted its first win over South Florida in six tries. The Bulls had dominated the series since coming to the Big East, winning the first five meetings by a combined score of 174-53.

Nassib entered the game leading the Big East and ranking 25th nationally in pass efficiency, but he had trouble at times against the Bulls (3-2, 0-1). He completed 13 of 23 passes for 135 yards as the Orange won with defense.

Syracuse limited South Florida quarterback B.J. Daniels to 125 yards of total offense and gave up just 221 overall while sacking Daniels four times.

South Florida's only touchdown came on a 94-yard kickoff return by Lindsey Lamar that gave the Bulls a 9-6 halftime lead.

Daniels completed 9 of 23 passes and was intercepted twice. His final pass, on fourth-and-5 from the South Florida 40, fell incomplete in the middle of the field with 1:30 to go. Syracuse was able to run out the clock and improve to 4-1 for the first time since 1999.
