Tulane receiver D.J. Banks put Tulane up for good in the third quarter on a trick play pass to Joe Kemp for a 13-yard touchdown to take a 17-7 lead.

Rutgers running back Mohamed Sanu scored on a pass from quarterback Chas Dodd with 3:08 left in the fourth quarter to bring the score to 17-14. However, the Scarlet Knights weren't able to push through more points, with Dodd throwing an interception on Rutgers' last offensive drive.

Tulane held the edge at halftime, taking a 10-7 lead into the locker room. Sophomore Payten Jason scored from two yards for the Green Wave with 9:48 left in the second quarter.

Cairo Santos kicked a 39-yard field goal earlier in the second quarter for Tulane's first points.

Green Wave quarterback Ryan Griffin completed 17 of 28 attempts for 140 yards.

Sanu was the lone star on Rutgers offense, scoring two touchdowns while rushing for 121 yards on nine carries while adding another 70 receiving yards. Sanu opened up Rutgers' scoring in the first quarter, rushing 91 yards on the first play from scrimmage to put the Scarlet Knights up 7-0 in the first minute of the game.
