D.J. Beshears scored three touchdowns and James Sims added two scored to lead Kansas to a 42-16 victory over New Mexico State on Saturday.

Coming off a loss at Southern Miss on Sept. 17, the Jayhawks had one more chance to work out the kinks before opening Big 12 Conference play and they took advantage of it.

Beshears ran for a 10-yard touchdown late in the first quarter for Kansas (2-2) and added a 96-yard kickoff return and a seven-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to put the Jayhawks up 21-7 at the break.

Sims finished with 123 yards on 18 carries and put Kansas ahead 28-7 with a 1-yard scoring run early in the third quarter. He added an 11-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for the Jayhawks, who outgained the Aggies 495-277.

Matt Christian completed 12-of-20 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown for New Mexico State (0-3).

Seth Smith rushed up the middle for a 1-yard touchdown in the first quarter and Christian threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Allen in the fourth for the Aggies.
