Quarterback Carson Coffman’s 7-yard touchdown run with 36 seconds left propelled Kansas State to a 17-13 victory over Central Florida on Saturday.

Coffman, who has been shaky as passer this season, helped the Wildcats avoid an embarrassing home loss by using his legs. Kansas State (4-0) entered having won 56 of its last 59 non-conference home games.

The Knights (2-2) looked like they might end that streak, as Nick Cattoi’s 27-yard field goal with 5:33 left in the fourth gave them a 13-10 lead.

But Coffman engineered the game-winning drive and helped the Wildcats improve to 4-0 for the first time since 2003. He finished 11 of 22 for 189 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Central Florida entered ranked 15th in the nation in total defense and the Knights lived up to their reputation by limiting Daniel Thomas, one of the best running backs in the nation, to just 75 yards on 22 carries.

Ronnie Weaver’s 8-yard touchdown run accounted for the lone score in the first half. Weaver finished with 139 yards on 22 carries.

Cattoi’s 31-yard field goal extended the Knights’ lead to 10-3 with 13:17 left in the fourth. But less than two minutes later, Coffman tied the game with a 58-yard touchdown pass to Aubrey Quarles.
