Quarterback Christian Ponder accounted for three touchdowns, and the Florida State defense did the rest in throttling Wake Forest, 31-0, in Saturday’s ACC match-up at Doak Campbell Stadium.

Ponder completed 24 of 37 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score to provide all the offense necessary for the Seminoles to easily win their conference opener and set the stage for next week’s ACC showdown at Virginia.

The FSU defense handled the rest, swarming a potent Demon Deacons running game all afternoon in improving to 3-1. Wake Forest entered the game ranked tied for seventh nationally after averaging just under 284 yards per game, but managed just 103 against Florida State, most of which came long after the game had been decided.

The Demon Deacons (2-2) were successful on just three of 14 third-down attempts and committed two turnovers.

Conversely, 10 different players hauled in at least one pass as the Seminoles rolled up 486 yards of total offense against a porous Wake defense.

The Demons Deacons host Georgia Tech next week.
