Kyle Padron threw for four touchdowns and rushed for one as SMU broke open a tight game in the second half for a 35-21 win over Washington State Saturday in Dallas.

Padron was 19-of-34 for 280 yards and threw three touchdown passes to Aldrick Robinson, who had four catches for 112 yards.

SMU (2-1) avenged last season's 30-27 loss in overtime to the Cougars (1-2). That was Washington State's only victory in 2009.

Padron threw third-quarter touchdown passes to Darius Johnson and Robinson to snap a 14-14 halftime tie. He added another to Robinson in the fourth quarter.

Padron scored on a 13-yard run in the first quarter and connected with Robinson for a 67-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter for a 14-7 lead.

The Cougars' Kyle McCartney recovered a muffed punt by Johnson for a tying touchdown, but the Mustangs pulled away in the second half.

Washington State's Jeff Tuel finished 18-of-34 for 284 yards and two touchdowns.
