Warren Norman scored on an 80-yard run and visiting Vanderbilt took advantage of sloppy play by Mississippi for a 28-14 SEC victory Saturday.

The Commodores (1-2) bounced back from a 27-3 loss to Louisiana State. The Rebels (1-2) have lost seven consecutive SEC openers and now have lost to FCS school Jacksonville State and lowly Vanderbilt this season.

Norman's long touchdown run gave the Commodores a 21-14 lead in the third quarter and keyed a running game that piled up 224 yards on 41 attempts, a 5.5-yard average.

Vanderbilt made it 28-14 on quarterback Larry Smith's 15-yard run with 8:18 remaining in the game. Vanderbilt then shut down the Rebels, drawing boos from the frustrated crowd at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Mississippi quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, a controversial Oregon transfer, rushed for 89 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown. He was 19-of-35 passing for 194 yards but had an interception returned 31 yards for a touchdown by Eddie Foster.

Vanderbilt's Zac Stacy opened the scoring with a 35-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
