Denard Robinson, Michigan's dual-threat quarterback, scored the go-ahead 2-yard touchdown with 27 seconds remaining and accounted for 502 yards of offense as the visiting Wolverines defeated Notre Dame 28-24 on Saturday.

Robinson, who rushed and passed for 383 yards last week in a win over Connecticut, passed for 244 yards and ran for 258 against the Irish defense.

Notre Dame (1-1) lost its starting quarterback, Dayne Crist, for the remainder of the first half after its initial touchdown. Crist scored on a 1-yard run early in the first quarter, but suffered an eye injury and did not return until the third quarter. Freshman Tommy Rees and sophomore Nate Montana struggled for the rest of the half in Crist's absence, resulting in two interceptions.

Michigan (2-0) scored its first touchdown when Robinson hit wide receiver Richard Roundtree on a slant in pattern to tie the score at 7-7. The Wolverines went ahead 14-7 when freshman Steve Hopkins scored on a 1-yard run on his first career carry. Robinson then raced around right end midway through the second quarter, stunning the home crowd, with an 88-yard scamper for a touchdown. The Wolverines led at the half, 21-7, with Robinson accounting for 281 yards in total offense.

Crist returned in the second half and the Irish scored on their first possession. The Notre Dame quarterback hit freshman TJ Jones on a 53-yard scoring pass as the Irish closed to 21-14. David Ruffer's 22-yard field goal got the Irish to 21-17 midway through the third quarter.

Crist threw a 95-yard TD pass to tight end Kyle Rudolph for a 24-21 lead with 3:41 left in the fourth quarter but Robinson answered in the final minute.
